Real Madrid suffer 4-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid.
Just a week ago Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid in the semi-final of the Supercopa De Espana, with a 5-3 victory.
After that bitter loss, Los Colchoneros wanted revenge. Though it was Los Blancos that started off well, with Jude Belligham dribbling past 2 defenders, and taking an early shot, but it went wide over the crossbar. Moments later, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak made a quick double save by denying Rodrygo, then Vinicius Jr.
It was Atletico Madrid that struck first thanks to Samuel Lino finishing off the opportunity that deflected into his path in the 39th minute.
The visitors found the equalizer with Jan Oblak scoring an own goal as he sent the ball into the back of his own net following a set piece from midfielder Luka Modric. The first half ended on level terms with the scoreline 1-1.
Atletico then scored, finding their way back into the lead in the second half with Alvaro Morata seeing his deflected shot by Antonio Rüdiger enter the back of the net.
In the final minutes of the game, Joselu’s header kept Real Madrid in the game, pushing it to extra time.
Antoine Griezmann scored, sending the ball past Andriy Lunin who could only stand still at the goalpost.
Real thought they had scored in the 110th minute, but Jude Bellingham was judged offside.
23-year-old Rodrigo Riquelme applied the finishing touches to knock Real Madrid out of the Copa Del Rey with a 4-2 victory.
